Job Summary and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for planning, directing and controlling the work of financial staff in collecting, summarizing, and interpreting financial data for management, creditors, and tax authorities. The incumbent directs budget, cost controls, and accounting practices for CHI‑Franciscan Health. As a key member of the finance management team, the incumbent helps develop forecasts for proposed projects, measures performance against plans and interprets results for all levels of management. Responsibilities include ensuring effectiveness of accounting systems, maintaining internal controls, compliance with regulatory guidelines, safeguarding assets, and providing timely financial reporting. The role continually seeks opportunities to reduce costs or increase revenues.
Operations Accountability Develop, implement and integrate financial systems/functions including general ledger, decision support, and accounts payable to facilitate timely settlement and recording of transactions. Oversight of cash management, tax reporting, budgetary and productivity variance monitoring. Oversees, reviews and approves transactions to ensure GAAP compliance. Collaborates with leadership to evaluate policies and adapt to business priorities.
Budget Administration Determine resources needed to achieve objectives. Prepare annual operating budget, control costs, monitor and adjust expenses to stay within budget. Approve expenditures within defined scope and address variances. Keep Vice President apprised of budgetary issues.
Performance/Quality Improvement Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate initiatives impacting the organization to facilitate performance improvements in line with objectives and regulatory requirements. Assess strengths and weaknesses, recommend projects, and direct improvement initiatives to achieve business objectives.
Staff Management and Development Plan, direct, and evaluate work of management/professional staff. Ensure appropriate staffing levels, qualified personnel, and training. Hold regular staff meetings and communicate relevant matters. Make employment decisions, set performance standards, and evaluate performance. Provide guidance, counseling, and development.
Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with internal/external regulations and control procedures. Monitor effectiveness of practices and keep abreast of changing requirements. Determine impact of regulatory changes and respond while maintaining service levels.
Procedures Development/Implementation Direct development, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and training materials. Ensure documentation and consistent application of internal guidelines.
Job Requirements Education/Work Experience Requirements
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible related work experience, demonstrating requisite knowledge/abilities, including five (5) years of management/leadership experience.
Licensure and Certifications
Certified Public Accountant: WA (CPA-WA) preferred.
