Senior Database Developer

Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA. We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with Appian experience. This is a full-time, hybrid position.
Roles & Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal business resources and technical teams/SMEs to understand data sources
Design, build, maintain, and optimize databases
Develop database objects including stored procedures, tables, views, and table‑valued functions
Write complex queries involving common table expressions, window functions, and subqueries for reporting
Develop, test, and execute the migration of data from an IBM DB2 database to an Oracle database
Translate business functions into conceptual, logical, and physical data models
Optimize database tables including the application of triggers, indices, and constraints
Enforce security standards necessary for the database, potentially including encryption at rest
Performance tuning and query optimization
Data migration from legacy databases and perform transformations to fit the new database
Conduct design reviews with business analysts and content developers to create proof of concept for reports
Support development teams in developing SQL queries
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
5+ years' experience as Database Developer/Programmer
5+ years' experience integrating data from disparate sources
5+ years' experience in Agile development methodologies
Strong understanding of MDM policies including cleansing, normalization, and standardization
Demonstrated experience with Configuration Management tools
Ability to design and create effective data models
Proficient in developing stored procedures using PL/SQL and developing efficient views
Experience with performance tuning
Experience in Data Mapping and Data Migration
Experience with databases such as Oracle and AWS RDS
Understanding of data security and data access controls
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work under high pressure in a complex multi‑threaded environment
Demonstrated capability to learn, rapidly utilizing problem‑solving skills
Desire to learn and document new tools
Prior experience architecting databases and warehouses for Appian BPMS solutions is a plus
