Executive Underwriter or AVP Underwriting Director - E&S Property

Zurich is currently looking to hire an AVP, Underwriting Director – Zurich E&S to join our E&S Property team. The position is available in Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, or New York City, NY, and offers flexible hybrid work arrangements with a requirement to be in the office and market three days per week.

The role requires the assistant to be visible in the marketplace, meet with agents and brokers, and work under the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on moderate technical complexity assignments. The focus is on driving growth with national wholesalers and ensuring profitability and high-level service to customers.

Responsibilities

Serving as a customer industry advocate focused on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end‑to‑end solution for their insurance needs.

Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.

Applying risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.

Market facing and production within the E&S Standard Property group.

Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.

Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.

High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.

7 or more years of experience in E&S Property Underwriting or Underwriting Support.

Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Microsoft Office skills.

The proposed salary range for this position is $130,000.00 – $215,000.00, with Global Specialties incentive bonus eligibility set at 40%. Bonuses and merit increases may also be available.
