Reports to: Senior Digital Marketing Manager
The James River Association (JRA) is a non‑profit organization on a mission to protect the James River and connect people to it. JRA is excited to announce a marketing internship position for summer 2026! This position will support our Awareness team in creating compelling email, social and website content related to our James River Watch program. They will also get the opportunity to craft social content that reaches a wide audience of river lovers and recreationalists. The Marketing Intern will work 10‑15 hours per week and must be available Friday evenings between 4‑6 pm. We offer a flexible hybrid work environment and encourage interns to visit the JRA Richmond office one day per week for in‑person collaborations. Preferred start date: between May 11‑May 25. Preferred end date: between August 24‑September 4.
Responsibilities
Support the JRA Marketing Team by developing content for weekly James River Watch emails, blogs, and social media posts
Create digital and print designs in Canva
Work with JRA staff to source and organize images from volunteers, recreationalists, and other stakeholders
Support the JRA team in developing a social media plan that encourages audiences to connect to the river
Qualifications
Must be available to work Friday evenings until about 6 pm throughout the internship
Preferred: experience with content creation and/or photography
Preferred: familiarity with Canva and MailChimp
Preferred: baseline knowledge of the James River and river recreationalists
Requirements
Reliable high‑speed internet connection
Personal phone for recording videos and capturing photographs
Preferred Skills & Experience
Baseline knowledge of the James River and river recreationalists
Experience crafting social media content for a business, nonprofit, or student group
Experience creating high‑quality graphics for social media and print
Compensation This position is $15/hour. We offer a flexible work schedule of 10‑15 hours per week.
