About the Role The Market Operations Director is responsible for providing senior-level support to the company's clients and key internal stakeholders, maintaining a fair and orderly market, and monitoring the stability of the company's systems. The Market Operations Director is a "player-coach." They take an active role in supporting the education and professional development of Associates and Specialists staffed on the team. They serve as a local subject matter expert on CFTC regulations and the trading and clearing lifecycle, manage complex exceptions, review and certify sensitive decisions adopted by staff, and act as the trading desk's senior liaison to the company's clients, regulators, auditors, and leadership team.
Market Operations Directors participate in real-time support and issue resolution while also leveraging their experience to guide the development and design of the company's policies, procedures, tooling, and support infrastructure.
What You'll Do
Provide senior-level technical and non-technical support for market participants, including futures commission merchants ("FCMs"), clearing banks, and other industry partners to resolve issues related to market access or usage of the company's trading, clearing, or data services
Synthesize user feedback and coordinate communications when escalating critical system issues to engineers
Monitor system integrity and maintain control of the company's trading environment
Maintain the company's listed event contracts, ensuring accurate product specifications, trading parameters, and settlement terms
Design, build, and maintain automation scripts used by the Market Operations team
Maintain and enhance the company's user-facing technical documentation, e.g. FIX Specifications, Connectivity Guides, etc.
Perform log analysis and packet capture review to diagnose latency, execution, and trade integrity issues within trading and clearing environments
Oversee the daily settlement process for cleared transactions, including cash movements and payment instructions
Oversee reconciliations on all daily activities, including trade executions, cash collateral transactions, and contract settlements, promptly resolving breaks and discrepancies
Manage the end-to-end clearing lifecycle, including position maintenance, collateral management, and delivery processing
Organize, implement, and certify fulfillment of daily operational procedures
Serve as a subject matter expert on the FIX Protocol, assisting members with new connections and certification testing
Collaborate with internal teams, including Technology Operations, Product Management, Sales, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Regulation
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree (ideally with a focus in economics, finance, computer science, mathematics, or information systems), or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
8+ years of experience, including a track record of success in a technically-focused operations role or system engineering role at a derivatives exchange, derivatives clearing house, market maker, or futures commission merchant ("FCM")
Proven understanding of electronic trading systems, reference data management, matching engine mechanics, and market connectivity concepts
Fluency with FIX Protocol and interpretation of FIX logs
Thorough practitioner knowledge of derivatives trading, clearing, and settlement processes, including margining methodologies and collateral management
Understanding of the CFTC regulatory environment, specifically the operational requirements applicable to a designated contract market ("DCM") and a derivatives clearing organization ("DCO")
Proven ability to research, analyze, and resolve complex operational issues independently
Proficiency with trade management and reconciliation systems (e.g. GMI, Calypso, SmartStream, TradingTechnologies, or proprietary reconciliation platforms)
Basic Python programming experience, e.g. composition of simple scripts to automate manual processes or assist with routine assignments
Data analysis experience using Python or SQL to query and interpret large datasets
Strong organizational leadership skills and the ability to effectively mentor colleagues while also participating as an individual contributor in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Availability and commitment to flexibly accommodate an event-driven work schedule and an on-call environment
Benefits and Compensation This position has a base salary of $150,000-$175,000 per year.
