
Director of Litigation Support & E-Discovery Services

The Director of Litigation Support & E-Discovery oversees the firm’s litigation technology and e-discovery operations, ensuring secure, efficient, and compliant management of electronically stored information (ESI). This role is pivotal in supporting trial preparation, litigation workflows, training, and technology solutions for the firm’s legal teams. The Director manages e-discovery platforms and trial presentation tools such as Relativity, OnCue, TrialDirector, and Opus2, and supervises litigation support personnel.
Working closely with attorneys, paralegals, IT, and finance, the Director ensures that litigation technologies are effectively integrated into Steptoe & Johnson PLLC’s cloud-first systems architecture. Additional responsibilities include partnering with the finance team on matter billing and delivering consistent training programs on litigation tools for attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the firmwide strategy and daily management of litigation support and e-discovery operations. Oversee the complete e-discovery lifecycle, including identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of ESI. Manage core litigation technologies including Relativity, OnCue, TrialDirector, Opus2, and related platforms. Collaborate with legal teams to ensure technology tools align with litigation strategies, workflows, and trial readiness. Deliver direct and timely support to attorneys and paralegals during active matters, including trial site or courtroom technology coordination. Develop, deliver, and maintain consistent training programs for litigation tools to ensure firmwide proficiency. Partner with the finance team to resolve billing or reimbursement discrepancies related to litigation technology services or vendor activity. Define and document standard operating procedures for litigation support processes, evidence management, and data security. Evaluate and recommend new litigation technologies to enhance service delivery, reduce risk, and improve operational efficiency. Manage litigation support vendor relationships and contracts. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate litigation support team members, ensuring timely support coverage and professional development. Partner with IT leadership to ensure system compatibility, security, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, Information Systems, or a related field required. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE: 6+ years of experience in litigation support or e-discovery roles in a law firm or corporate legal environment, including 3+ years in a leadership capacity. Experience supporting trials and managing legal technology tools is required. REQUIRED SKILLS
Expert-level knowledge of litigation support platforms including Relativity, TrialDirector, OnCue, and Opus2. Strong understanding of the EDRM model and litigation lifecycle. Proven ability to lead teams and manage high-volume, complex litigation environments. Experience delivering direct support to attorneys and coordinating courtroom technology. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training on legal tech tools to diverse users. Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills. Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure and secure data handling practices. Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and sound judgment. Experience with billing practices and financial systems related to litigation support is a plus. Proven leadership skills working with different levels of management within an organization.
