Grant-Mill Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System (LBVAHCS) Engineering Service. You'll work within the Planning Section under the VA Interior Designer, supporting design services for major construction project activations — including space planning, FF&E procurement package development, activation coordination, and installation oversight across clinical, administrative, and support spaces.

What You'll Do

Work with the contracted Interior Designer, Interior Design Assistant, and VA Interior Designer to create and execute design services for offices, conference rooms, patient care rooms, treatment rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, break rooms, and support spaces.

Prepare detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes, and visual aids for design presentations.

Analyze architectural drawings and develop AutoCAD FF&E plan layers for building codes, major equipment, materials, and traffic patterns.

Interpret and review architectural plans for concurrence with VA Technical Information Library (TIL) standards.

Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards: SOWs, technical specifications, IGCEs, bid sheets, budgets, and installation schedules.

Manage financial tracking for FF&E procurement — vendor communication, delivery and installation coordination, control log maintenance.

Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library including drawings, plans, procurement documents, and project binders.

Review wayfinding signage plans, furniture and artwork installation plans; direct installation crews independently.

Identify and manage punch lists for installed items, coordinating with dealers, installers, and stakeholders.

Prepare meeting notes and design collateral; support transition planning, day-in-life scenarios, and move plans.

Coordinate with Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, and Engineering services.

Requirements All Candidates Must Have

Associate's Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field -OR- 3-5 years of relevant interior design experience.

A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements.

Open to recent graduates possessing practical internship experience.

Proficiency in AutoCAD (required) and Microsoft Office Suite — Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (required).

Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.

Skilled in freehand drawing and drawing to scale during on-site measurements.

Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare environments.

Working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA.

Ability to pass a federal background investigation (NACI level) and drug screening.

Negative TB screening within 90 days of assignment; annual flu vaccination or approved exemption.

Preferred Qualifications

NCIDQ — National Council for Interior Design Qualification.

EDAC — Evidence-Based Design Accreditation.

PMP — Project Management Professional.

LEED AP — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Experience with Revit and Microsoft Project.

Prior experience in VA Medical Center or DoD healthcare environments.

Portfolio demonstrating healthcare or institutional interior design work.
