Alabama / Southeast, US Responsibilities
Reports to the Vice President of Outpatient & Ancillary Services and oversees four FTEs Provides system-wide leadership and oversight for all Environment of Care (EOC) and Emergency Management (EM) programs Develops, implements, and maintains effective policies, programs, and procedures that support a culture of safety and regulatory readiness Oversees all accreditation and compliance activities related to safety, EOC, and emergency preparedness Monitors and interprets changes in safety and emergency management regulations, communicating updates and implications to system leadership Directs the development and maintenance of safety management plans, annual program reviews, and documentation for committee and board review Leads initiatives to assess, monitor, and enhance safety performance through risk assessments, incident reviews, and process improvement Partners with leaders across the organization to ensure integration of safety and emergency management into all operations Promotes a strong safety culture through open communication, employee engagement, and conducts and oversees investigations of incidents and safety concerns, ensuring proper follow-up and preventive measures are implemented Supervises and mentors safety and emergency management personnel, ensuring effective coordination and execution of responsibilities Experience, Education, Licensure & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field required, Master’s preferred Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting Certification as a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, safety management systems, and emergency preparedness Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to emergency management, including CMS and The Joint Commission Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments Proficient in Windows‑based computer applications and documentation management Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Proven ability to develop and sustain comprehensive safety and emergency management programs Ability to prioritize, organize, and direct complex operations across multiple locations Proficient in documentation, reporting, and the use of technology to support program oversight and compliance
