Description
The Orientation and Mobility Specialist evaluates and teaches concepts, skills, and techniques necessary for a student with a vision impairment to travel safely and efficiently through many environments and under many environmental conditions and situations. It is the O & M Specialists' responsibility to assist the student in attaining independent travel skills commensurate with their age and abilities. Services may be provided through direct or consultative contact.

Physical Requirements
Perform the physical tasks necessary to monitor, supervise and physically assist students throughout the school day during a variety of instructional activities.
Report to the assigned site on a regular basis.
Must be able to function effectively in an active, loud environment.
Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment as circumstances require.
Qualifications
Highly organized
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Excellent problem-solver
Ability to work with students with vision impairments
Education
B.S. or M.S. in Orientation and Mobility for Vision Impaired
License/Certification Requirements
Illinois State Board of Education certifications registered in Will County, Illinois
Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) certified or certifiable.
