Police Sergeant – Dignitary Protection

Responsibilities

Lead the Dignitary Protection Unit, providing leadership, direction, and operational oversight for sworn personnel safeguarding elected officials, visiting dignitaries, and other protectees.

Develop, implement, and oversee protection plans, conduct threat assessments, advance planning, and manage staffing and resource allocation for motorcades, public appearances, and special events.

Collect, process, and analyze crime data, intelligence reports and open‑source information to identify trends and actionable intelligence.

Maintain strict confidentiality, prepare after‑action reviews, enforce policies, procedures, and standards.

Supervise, mentor, evaluate unit officers and provide training in protective tactics and emergency response.

Collaborate with investigators, patrol officers, command staff and partner agencies to share intelligence.

Maintain intelligence databases and ensure compliance with legal and departmental standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited organization.

Must be 21 years old, possess moral and ethical character.

POST certified Police Officer with at least two years of law‑enforcement experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in intelligence analysis or related field.

Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience in protective services, tactical operations, or executive security.

Leadership, decision‑making, and communication skills.

Completion of dignitary protection or advanced security training.

Abilities

Maintain confidentiality and handle complex records under stress.

Excellency in interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.

Knowledge of criminal‑justice systems, investigative procedures and applicable laws.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and related database software.

Shift / Salary / Benefits Days, Monday–Friday. Pay Band 11: $27.21–$30.41 per hour (commensurate with qualifications). Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, retirement plan options, paid vacation, sick leave and 13 paid holidays.

Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a background check, credit check, and vehicle‑record review is required. Candidates must comply with cybersecurity and privacy policies.
