The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA), based in New York, provides strategic oversight, policy guidance, management support, and regional analysis to Country Offices across Africa.
The RBA Partnerships and Communications Team (PACT) leads the Bureau’s communications, advocacy, and partnership efforts, promoting UNDP Africa’s work at the global level and supporting Country Offices in strengthening their digital presence and storytelling.
Graphic Design & Animation Intern
– The intern will support the development of high‑quality visual and digital communications products, contributing to content creation, digital storytelling, and multimedia production in alignment with UNDP’s corporate communications priorities.
The intern reports to the Strategic Communications Specialist and collaborates closely with colleagues across RBA and relevant corporate teams.
Duties and Responsibilities 1. Graphic Design & Content Production
Transform text‑based materials into visually engaging products (infographics, brochures, presentations, reports, and event materials)
Develop social media assets (quote cards, fact sheets, infographics, and short‑form visuals)
Produce templates for recurring communications products
Ensure all outputs align with UNDP branding guidelines
2. Animation & Multimedia Development
Support the conceptualization and production of animations and motion graphics
Develop explainer videos, video slideshows, and multimedia storytelling products
Produce storyboards, mock‑ups, and visual concepts for campaigns and reports
Assist in editing video content for digital platforms
3. Digital Communications Support
Contribute to content creation for digital platforms (web and social media)
Assist in developing content tailored for platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and X
Support basic web and social media analytics tracking and reporting
Help ensure timely publication and dissemination of content
4. Communications Strategy & Team Support
Support the implementation of RBA’s communications strategy and engagement plans
Assist in identifying innovative approaches to visual storytelling and audience engagement
Provide support, as needed, to Country Offices in producing digital content
Contribute to brainstorming sessions and campaign development
5. Other Tasks
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Expected Deliverables
High‑quality graphic and multimedia content supporting campaigns, reports, and events
Regular production and sharing of digital content with the Communications Team
Consistent application of UNDP branding and visual identity standards
Timely delivery of assigned outputs in line with agreed deadlines
Contributions to enhancing visibility of UNDP Africa’s work across platforms

Required Skills and Experience Education
Be enrolled in a graduate programme in graphic design, motion graphics, communications, or a related field; or
Have completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and start the internship within one year of graduation
Experience
Demonstrated experience in graphic design and visual communications
Experience creating infographics and visual layouts
Knowledge of motion graphics and animation is an asset
Experience in video editing is desirable
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro)
Familiarity with branding and visual identity principles
Experience creating content for digital and social media platforms is an asset
Basic knowledge of web and social media analytics tools is desirable
Previous experience in communications, international development, or related fields is an advantage
Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
Portfolio Requirement Applicants must submit a portfolio showcasing relevant graphic design, animation, or multimedia work.
Languages
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
Working knowledge of French is desirable
Intern Conditions
This internship is unpaid; however, a monthly stipend is provided in accordance with UNDP policies.
Interns are responsible for all other costs related to the internship, including travel, visa, accommodation, and insurance.
Interns must provide proof of valid health insurance.
Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in an official capacity.
Interns are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to UNDP positions during the internship period.
