
RECREATION AID (LIFEGUARD).

Responsibilities
Continuously observes the swimming area to ensure the safety of patrons.
Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted.
Rescues swimmers in trouble, administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance when needed.
Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions or hazards and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
Operates water pumps and controls chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specific standards.
Inspects diving boards for cracks or loose matting, and ensures necessary repairs are made.
Performs other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area, including cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, and sunbathing areas.
Conditions of Employment
This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
Individuals must fully meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position.
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation, or have a signed memorandum indicating the installation’s decision on the 3‑year residency requirement.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Qualifications
Must have an approved and current national recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid and CPR (both child and adult).
Must have experience providing practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures, and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment.
Must satisfactorily complete installation record checks, state and national criminal background checks, and Tier 1 Background Investigation.
Experience may be paid or unpaid, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations.
Resume must clearly describe relevant experience; if qualification can be based on education, transcripts will be required as part of the application.
