
Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) NF-01.

Responsibilities
Employs safety rules for the protection of pool guests, responsible for lifeguarding, provides maximum pool area surveillance, responds to emergencies, rescues pool patrons, and administers first aid as required.
Assists in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training, assists with American Red Cross swim lessons as an aide, and attends aquatics and safety training as directed.
Assists in maintaining the pool area clean and free from hazards, performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty, and provides information to swimmers regarding safety, health, and admission rules and procedures.
Warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions, and assists in coaching or preparing competitive and non‑competitive swimming programs.
Maintains daily logs, reports, and records as required; participates in required training (on‑the‑job training, emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations); and performs other duties as assigned.

Must have a current health assessment documenting good physical health, free from communicable disease, in accordance with current Army policy.
Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
If exposed to an infectious disease, the incumbent must obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24‑hour period.
Lifeguards must have good vision (20/40 with or without glasses or contacts, or uncorrected) while on duty to effectively recognize emergencies, incidents, and rule breaking.
Incumbent must follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
May be assigned to irregular duties or special recreational events; work hours may involve weekends, weekdays, holidays, and night duty.
Fifteen‑year‑old lifeguards must comply with the restrictions of the DOL Child Labor Law.
All required certifications must be kept current.
Qualifications

American Red Cross Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation for Professionals, CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent, and First Aid.
