Breaking/Trending Reporter

Trending Reporter The Canton Repository, part of the USA TODAY Network, is looking for a high-energy, curious staff writer to serve as our breaking/trending reporter. This position will play a key role in serving our Stark County audience by providing fast-paced, engaging journalism covering both news and sports.

Responsibilities

Manage a high-volume beat, responsible for one to three short posts most days, while balancing ongoing longer-range stories.

Answer questions local readers are asking.

Monitor social media, news feeds, and other relevant sources to identify emerging trends.

Localize national trending stories in news, sports, culture, entertainment and politics.

Understand social media, Google Trends, audience metrics and SEO techniques.

Use SEO techniques and engagement tools like Google Trends to spot high-interest topics.

Have a competitive spirit to see work at the top of page view charts each day.

Handle breaking news coverage.

Requirements

Bachelor's or master’s degree in journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

1-3 years reporting experience.

Commitment to detail, accuracy and fairness.

Ability to multi-task and excel under deadline pressure, using time efficiently.

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum liability insurance required by state law.

Employment contingent on passing post-offer background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record check.

Position requires relocation to the Canton region.
