Position Summary Kanawha Stone Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Proposal & Grant Writer to support business development and strategic growth initiatives. This role will focus on the development of high-quality proposals, prequalification packages, and related materials. This position reports to the Marketing Manager.
The position will work closely with internal technical teams and coordinate with marketing personnel to ensure alignment with established processes, branding, and strategic messaging. Additionally, this role will collaborate with affiliated organizations on strategic initiatives, including identifying and pursuing grant funding opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and/or assist in the preparation of proposals, qualifications, and prequalification packages for public and private sector opportunities
Develop clear, concise, and compelling technical narratives in collaboration with internal subject matter experts
Manage and/or assist with proposal schedules, compliance requirements, and submission processes
Coordinate with leadership to align proposal strategy, messaging, and quality standards
Maintain and contribute to proposal content libraries, resumes, and project descriptions
Support marketing efforts including statements of qualifications and other client-facing materials as needed
Research and identify grant funding opportunities aligned with infrastructure, development, and community projects
Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications and supporting documentation
Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to gather necessary data, technical input, and supporting materials
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience in proposal writing, technical writing, or related field (AEC industry experience is a plus)
Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
Ability to translate technical information into clear, persuasive content
Experience managing multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with document layout and design software
Grant writing or funding procurement experience is highly desirable

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
