Overview of this role As a Senior Contract Manager, Commercial (EMEA), you'll help GitLab manage some of its most strategic customer relationships by guiding complex commercial agreements from first draft through signature. You'll work at the center of enterprise deals, complex licensing structures, and contracting for customers in heavily regulated industries, helping sales teams move deals forward while protecting GitLab's interests. In this role, you'll report to the Director of Legal and play a key part in advising on risk in real time, improving how the team works at scale, and strengthening the internal knowledge base that supports consistent, practical decision-making.
Manage a pipeline of commercial agreements across varying levels of complexity and stakeholder needs.
Draft subscription agreements, artificial intelligence terms, regulatory annexes, professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and related commercial documents.
Negotiate contract terms directly with customer counterparts in a way that supports deal progress and protects GitLab's legal and business interests.
Collaborate with sales teams and internal stakeholders to provide clear, timely guidance on contracting questions throughout the deal cycle.
Assess contractual risk across your caseload and translate legal issues into practical options and recommendations for the business.
Support sales enablement by creating practical guidance and helping sales team members understand and navigate contract terms.
Maintain and improve team playbooks, templates, and process documentation to support consistent, scalable contracting practices.
What you’ll bring
Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts in a software or technology environment.
Knowledge of technology-related agreements, including complex commercial arrangements, large transactions, and contracts with structured regulatory or licensing considerations.
Ability to balance business goals with legal risk using a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
Skill in explaining complex contractual concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders and external counterparts.
Experience working across geographies and time zones, with awareness of differing commercial and regulatory norms in global contracting.
Familiarity with Google Workspace and contract lifecycle management tools; experience with Ironclad is useful, and openness to learning GitLab's tools and workflows is important.
Fluency in English, with additional language skills welcomed because they can support collaboration and negotiation across diverse markets.
Transferable experience from remote or asynchronous environments, or readiness to work effectively in that model, along with a law degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent practical experience.
The Commercial Legal team The Commercial Legal team partners with sales and business stakeholders to support GitLab's revenue motion in a responsible and efficient way. The team manages contracting across GitLab's global customer base, including software as a service, self-managed, and hybrid deployment models, along with terms related to artificial intelligence and the broader platform direction. The team works asynchronously across time zones and relies on strong documentation, pragmatism, and mutual support to keep pace with a fast-moving business. A key focus is helping the company scale commercial contracting while staying clear on risk and enabling deals effectively.
