
Associate Art Director

Overview:
This role supports the visual direction and production of a monthly magazine and related brand initiatives, including editorial layouts, photoshoots, and event materials. The position collaborates closely with the Design Director and cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality design across print and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute story ideas and editorial planning. Design editorial pages for each issue, collaborating with the Design Director to maintain a consistent visual voice. Conceptualize and design feature stories, partnering on layout direction and visual storytelling. Coordinate and art direct photoshoots, including developing concepts and managing communication between photographers, subjects, and internal teams. Source and commission illustrators, including researching talent, pitching projects, and providing creative direction. Edit and refine photography to meet publication standards. Design auxiliary editorial projects, and additional magazine-related materials. Design advertorials, special sections and client projects, securing creative approval from both internal and external teams. Create print and digital assets for events, including promotional, logistical, and recap materials (shared across team). Assist the digital editor with web and social media graphic. Manage production logistics such as organizing files and maintaining asset libraries.
Qualifications:
An appreciation for Indianapolis and its stories Strong editorial design skills with a keen eye for typography, layout, and visual storytelling Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and collaboration skills Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
