Job Summary
FOX Carolina (WHNS-TV) has an immediate opening for a Weekend Meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team in Greenville, SC. The role requires expertise in scientific analysis and the communication skills to deliver critical weather information across all platforms. The meteorologist will tell a compelling story and bring the weather to life wherever it unfolds.
Responsibilities
Own the forecast:
Analyze scientific data and models to craft accurate, reliable forecasts for the Upstate and Western North Carolina viewing area.
Tell the weather story:
Identify the "story of the day" and translate complex meteorological data into clear, conversational narratives that keep the audience prepared.
Drive digital engagement:
Deliver engaging weather presentations across broadcast, streaming, and social media to meet the audience wherever they are.
Lead in severe weather:
Track and forecast severe events, providing timely, life‑saving information with calm authority when it matters most.
Visualize the data:
Conceptualize and create dynamic graphics using the WSI MAX system to make forecasts easy to understand and visually engaging.
Collaborate with the team:
Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist and news leadership to ensure seamless weather integration across all platforms.
Be a versatile presence:
Bring the weather story to life whether in the studio or reporting live from the field.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 2 years as a broadcast meteorologist.
Technical Skill:
Command of the WSI MAX system is preferred.
Credentials:
BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field; NWA or AMS seals are a plus.
Digital-First Mindset:
Ready to engage on social and streaming throughout the day.
Severe Weather:
Thrive under pressure and ready to respond when conditions turn unpredictable.
Flexibility:
Adaptable to non‑9‑to‑5 schedules and varying shifts and assignments.
Safety First:
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are mandatory.
