Online Activity Director Workshop - May 5 - June 1, 2026 The Missouri Health Care Association

Activity Director Online Program , offered in partnership with WeCare, is designed to prepare individuals for a rewarding role in long-term care. This fully online course meets the minimum Missouri requirements for becoming an Activity Director and is approved by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Section for Long-Term Care Regulation.

The program focuses on understanding resident needs, supporting activities of daily living (ADLs), and developing structured, resident-centered activity programs. Participants will gain practical, real-world knowledge to confidently plan, organize, and lead engaging activities that enhance quality of life in long-term care settings.

Throughout the course, attendees will learn how to assess residents’ interests, abilities, and needs, and use that insight to create meaningful opportunities for engagement. The curriculum also covers techniques to encourage participation and social interaction, as well as ways activities can help maintain or improve residents’ functional abilities. In addition, participants will build essential skills in organizing schedules, coordinating supplies, ensuring safety during activities, and communicating effectively with staff, residents, and families. Leadership and organizational strategies specific to activity programming are also emphasized.

Workshop fee does not include the cost of the required textbook, "Long Term Care for Activity Professionals and Recreational Therapists". This book may be purchased during your registration for this course.

Upon successful completion, attendees will have met Missouri’s requirements to serve as an Activity Director in a long-term care setting and will receive a Certificate of Attendance from Missouri Health Care Association.

The course is April 7 - May 4, 2026. It is a four week long course and offered monthly. Students are provided an allotted amount of time to complete each part of the required coursework. There are no dedicated days or times that they must be online.
