Position Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Development serves on the Dartmouth Cancer Center Development team, reporting to the Director of Development. The role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a personal portfolio of prospects—including community members, alumni, corporations, patients, and families with an interest in cancer research and clinical care. Collaboration with clinical, research, and donor engagement partners will support the Center’s fundraising initiatives, including corporate sponsorship for the annual Prouty event.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two to four years of demonstrated success in fundraising within a complex development organization.
Experience cultivating and soliciting donors, including event planning and execution.
Knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and web‑based fundraising software.
Strong organizational, communication, and project‑management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and setting priorities.
Experience working in an academic medical system or university environment preferred.
Comfort with business travel and handling confidential information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Commitment to diversity, creativity, analytical planning, integrity, and a positive workplace demeanor.

Responsibilities
Clearly articulate the Dartmouth Cancer Center mission and fundraising priorities to donor audiences.
Develop and implement donor‑centric strategies to meet personal activity and revenue metrics.
Grow a pipeline of major‑gift prospects, identifying and qualifying potential donors for multi‑year commitments ranging from $25,000 to $500,000.
Solicit and steward a portfolio of approximately 150–200 community members, alumni, corporations, patients, and families.
Lead corporate partner and leadership giving programs, working with prospects to secure annual gifts of $5,000 or more.
Document all activities in fundraising databases.
Engage in comprehensive strategy development to cultivate and steward top prospects aligned with DCC’s mission.
Partner with the Executive Director, FDCC, to manage corporate sponsorship programs for the Prouty event.
Collaborate with the Strategic Engagement team to develop and participate in fundraising events and programming.
Serve as a development partner with physicians and nurses in the philanthropy training program, attending trainings and coaching sessions.
Participate in other duties as assigned and demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, and commitment to an inclusive environment.
