Pine Knoll Assistant Camp Director – Non-Union, Non-Exempt, Up to 40 hours per week, May – August.
Salary: $19.00–$21.00 per hour (General)
Description The Pine Knoll Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in supporting the Camp Director with daily operations, staff supervision, and program implementation of a thriving day camp. This position ensures a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers and staff, fosters positive relationships, and helps deliver high-quality camp experiences.
Primary Essential Functions
Assist the Camp Director in planning, organizing, and supervising camp activities and schedules.
Provide direct supervision and support to camp counselors and activity leaders.
Help ensure the safety and well‑being of campers and staff at all times, ensuring that the proper staff‑to‑camper ratio is maintained.
Implement camp policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff regarding camper needs and concerns.
Oversee daily set‑up, clean‑up, and maintenance of camp facilities.
Support staff training, development, and performance evaluations.
Step in for the Camp Director as needed.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging camp culture.
Address disciplinary issues with fairness and consistency.
Understand and follow 105 CMR 430.00 – Minimum Standards for Rec Camps regulations in Massachusetts.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
Completion of First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, including hiking, swimming, team‑building initiatives, physical games, and other activities.
Experience and Training
CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Previous experience in a camp setting or youth leadership role preferred.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to problem‑solve and remain calm under pressure.
Excellent communication skills.
Enthusiasm for working with children and leading a diverse team.
Must pass required background checks.
