
Public Relations Coordinator

This position is primarily responsible for coordination of public information through City’s various communications platforms, ensuring consistency of City-wide information, reporting to the Public Information Officer. The function of this position is to develop and coordinate public information in accordance with the mission, objectives, directives and policies of the Communications Department and the City.
Duties and Responsibilities
Gather information, write and distribute the monthly City newsletter.
Write and design weekly email newsletter with timely content for each edition.
Gather facts, news and information about the City from departments, boards and commissions, city staff, etc., and distribute it through media releases, City’s website, social media and other appropriate media. Write/rewrite information to ensure a consistent voice across platforms using plain language and AP Style.
Design print projects and layouts; coordinate the production, mailing and distribution of external and internal materials printed in‑house and by outside vendors.
Work with City departments to develop campaigns to promote City programs/services. Recommend strategies for best reaching key audiences.
Develop City departmental reports or brochures as assigned.
Regularly update website, including content for the news section, images for City’s website, events for City calendar.
Assist with the City’s social media initiatives and create new content for social media platforms.
Attend City Council Planning Session meetings (held twice monthly) and manage Zoom during meetings.
Write speeches and design multimedia presentations for Mayor or City staff, as assigned.
Assist Municipal Producer with various video programs for CWC10 and the City’s website.
Work with video staff to promote new programming.
Maintain Communications Department photo library, and archive of Planning Session Minutes.
Stay current with best practices, technology and trends in government communication through participation in peer organizations (i.e. 3CMA, NAGC).
Recommend new technologies or methods for communicating with audiences.
Create graphics consistent with City branding and style guide.
Create infographics and multimedia for distributing on social media and for Video Division.
Assist City Departments in creating templates and materials to match City branding.
Assist in monitoring City’s social media accounts and provide responses to inquiries.
Assist PIO in responding to emergencies and/or monitoring social media after‑hours if necessary.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related degree, or 4 years of experience in Public Relations or related field.

Knowledge
Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing.
Graphic design and Social Media platforms and best practices.
Working with a CMS (Content Management System).
Web page or website creation preferred.
Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Products, record keeping, and database management.
Skills
Excellent written communication skills (grammar, writing, copyediting/proofreading, typing).
Graphic design software (InDesign, Photoshop).
Photography and photo editing.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) for interaction with elected and appointed officials, employees, agencies and other governmental units, and the public.
Abilities
Take initiative and be self‑motivated.
Creativity and ability to meet deadlines.
