
Housing Specialist

Responsibilities
Administers housing and community development programming in accordance with local, state, and federal policies and procedures
Determines eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) and maintains accurate and timely case records
Processes customer appeals and coordinates with Virginia Housing
Conducts home visits for recertification and other purposes
Recruit landlords in the area to achieve housing choice and prevent concentration of poverty
Works with Virginia Housing and landlords to ensure property standards are compliant with the program
Follows Virginia Housing confidentiality protocols for all households seeking and obtaining assistance
Is capable of underwriting housing proposals and recommending funding decisions
Can create loan and grant guidelines and conduct detailed financial and pro forma analyses
Requirements Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in accounting, real estate development finance, or a related field is required, with some experience in affordable housing finance or benefit programs. Housing Development Finance Professional (HDFP) certification is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid and appropriate driver’s license.
Language Skills: Ability to read, understand, and write with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Effective speaking and communication skills in English are required.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A solid understanding of accounting and compliance philosophy, objectives, practices, and technique is essential. The role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Candidates must be able to work independently within established guidelines to achieve program objectives. Additionally, proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to quickly learn various software tools for data entry and report creation are necessary.
