Position Overview Rider University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Housing Operations and Logistics. Reporting to the Executive Director for Residential Engagement and Development, the Assistant Director of Housing Operations and Logistics provides leadership and oversight for core components of the on‑campus residential experience, directly influencing student engagement, satisfaction, and success. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the effective operation of a complex housing system and advancing institutional priorities through a seamless, student‑centered residential program.

The Assistant Director of Housing Operations and Logistics is part of the leadership team responsible for a residential population of up to 2,000 students across over a dozen residential facilities, with a primary focus on managing operations and housing assignments. Primary responsibilities include occupancy management, room and board assignments, room selection, damage billing, strategic marketing and facilities maintenance, and systems management. The Assistant Director additionally provides direct collaborative leadership for fraternity and sorority housing on campus, and serves in a campus‑wide on‑call capacity for emergency response.

This position is a required live‑in position.

This 12‑month position includes a full benefits package, a furnished apartment on campus and a meal plan.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Experience

Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs, Public Administration, MBA or a related discipline. In lieu of a Master’s degree, a minimum of 3‑5 years of full‑time residential work experience in a Higher Education setting providing direct service to students, staff, parents and university partners will be taken into consideration.

Must be able to multi‑task and manage multiple priorities.

Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated strong intercultural competency and experience supporting students with diverse identities and backgrounds.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Must be able to effectively present information to small and large groups.

Ability to work in a stressful environment and with great attention to detail.

Demonstrated commitment to university programs, policies and services intended to maximize student personal growth, education and development.

Demonstrated knowledge of current student affairs as well as university housing trends and issues.

Demonstrated leadership ability and team orientation.

Demonstrated success working within the university community.

Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population and promoting a campus climate that encourages inclusion.

Knowledge of all federal, state, and municipal laws likely to have an effect upon areas supervised, especially safety and risk management.

Strong analytical and organization skills.

Excellent interpersonal, cultural/intercultural, and community relations skills; excellent supervision, presentation, teaching, and training skills.

Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to communicate effectively and interact tactfully with all levels of university students, staff, faculty, and trustees; and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, conduct assessment of needs and program effectiveness, and apply data and analysis skills to the formulation of proposals and solutions.

Proficient in use of technology. Experience with housing database systems is required with a preference of StarRez experience and SchoolDude. Experience with Windows or Macintosh system software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point), and Google and other e‑mail software.

Availability to work varied and flexible hours

Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.
