Summary Of Position St. Michael’s Prep seeks an experienced Associate Director of College and Academic Counseling to engage in the community and support students throughout the college admission process beginning in 9th grade. This 12‑month full‑time position starts in August 2026 and reports to the Director of College and Academic Services.
Responsibilities
Administrate all aspects of the college search and admissions process, educating students and parents about colleges, the admissions process, testing, and trends.
Advise and support classes of 100 seniors and families, helping students choose realistically and wisely.
Meet with 9th‑12th grade students individually and in groups to discuss the college admission timeline.
Facilitate college admissions representative visits on campus and serve as a liaison with college offices throughout the year.
Write letters of recommendation and advise over one quarter of the senior class.
Prepare and present informational sessions for parents, including college nights for all grade levels.
Stay current on issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, specific colleges, and maintain membership in professional organizations (NACAC, Texas Association of College Admission Counselors, and ACCIS). Attend counselor fly‑ins and conferences.
Coordinate PSAT and AP exams on campus.
Maintain a list of scholarships and summer programs.
Communicate effectively through newsletters and social media to all stakeholders.
Assist with multiple school‑wide events.
Academic Advising
Serve as an academic counselor for ¼ of the 9th‑12th grades.
Oversee an advisory group with 10 students.
Assist with course registration and ongoing advising.
Qualifications
Master’s degree and 3‑5 years of college counseling and/or admission experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, and ability to meet deadlines.
Flexible self‑starter.
Warm and friendly demeanor with effective communication skills for a highly engaged student and parent population.
Genuine interest in student development and enthusiasm for guiding them through the transition from high school to college.
