Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field and at least two years of full‑time experience in a similar functional area is preferred. Experience in supervising, budgeting, event management, advising student organizations, and leading collaborative efforts is preferred.
Position Summary The Assistant Director for Student Engagement is primarily responsible for the oversight of the student engagement portfolio to include promoting co‑ and extra‑curricular engagement across campus, the student organization registration process, training and support for student organization leaders and advisors, student organization compliance, and promotion of ELS experiences. The Assistant Director for Student Engagement reports to the Associate Director of Engagement, Leadership, and Service. The Assistant Director directly supervises one full‑time professional, one graduate assistant, and up to twelve peer leaders.

Ability to advise and develop student leaders and organizations
Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a dynamic environment
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a fast‑paced team environment
Ability to build and sustain collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders to advance departmental and university priorities
Proficiency with, and ability to quickly learn, technology and project management tools including Microsoft Office programs, Asana, and engagement or organization management systems (e.g. Anthology Engage, or similar) to support daily operations
Skilled at planning events and programs that promote co‑ and extra‑curricular involvement and active campus engagement
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrate sound judgment and maintain confidentiality
Strong fiscal management, assessment, and policy implementation skills
Must be available to work evenings and weekends, as needed

Administrative Duties and Management
Actively promote and participate in the development, retention, and engagement of the Senior Coordinator for Student Engagement and the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement. Provide secondary supervisory support for the part‑time radio station engineer
Manage the ELS Peer Leaders staff including recruitment, selection, training, event support, shift coverage, and payroll
Oversee ELS space, student organization mail, and storage allocation processes
Manage ELS communication and marketing efforts including, but not limited to, departmental email and social media accounts, weekly student involvement listserv, promotional outreach on behalf of the department
Manage and provide oversight to budgets totaling approximately $130,000 in funding
Serve as chair the Division of Student Affairs Student Leader Advisor Team to include leading meetings and facilitating continued education and training opportunities for Student Affairs advisors
Percentage of Time: 35%
Student Organization Registration And Management
Coordinate and manage the registration process for all student organizations
Oversee and ensure the review of every student organization constitution for accuracy and adherence to local state, and federal laws; constitutional rights and protections; and university guidelines and policies, including but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, Freedom of Expression, Non‑Discrimination and Anti‑Harassment, Solicitation, Trademark, and Programs and Activities Serving Minors
Serve as the point of contact and primary administrator for the UGA Involvement Network (Anthology Engage, a student engagement software platform) and facilitate student organization registration, event submission, participant attendance tracking and event pass, and fundraising/collection procedures
Maintain and review the Student Organization Manual for accuracy and author appropriate updates in consultation with campus stakeholders
Serve as a resource to the campus community regarding student organizations, event planning, fiscal management, and risk management practices
Percentage of Time: 30%
Student Organization Education And Programming
Coordinate the Engagement Coaching initiative, facilitated by the ELS Peer Leaders staff
Create and maintain curriculum, resources, and continuing education opportunities for student organization advisors
Maintain digital student organization resources library and update as necessary
Develop in‑person and digital workshops and trainings on applicable topics
Oversee the planning, promotion, and execution of signature ELS events, including but not limited to the bi‑annual Engagement Fairs, the annual Student Engagement Awards, Presidential Summits and other initiatives
Provide secondary advising support for the WUOG 90.5 student radio station
