
Assistant Director Fraternity/Sorority Life

Job Summary:
The Assistant Director Fraternity/Sorority Life is responsible for supporting the Director in the overall management of fraternity and sorority life by providing leadership and oversight for community development, leadership initiatives, and engagement efforts within fraternity and sorority life. The Assistant Director supervises professional staff and partners with campus and organizational stakeholders to support a cohesive and engaged fraternity and sorority community by providing strategic leadership for fraternity and sorority community engagement, including council governance, leadership development frameworks, and initiatives that advance the Fraternity and Sorority Life mission and strategic priorities.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
Develops and oversees leadership development initiatives, training programs, and educational curricula for FSL community members.
Oversees and facilitates community-wide programs and engagement initiatives in collaboration with the FSL coordinator team and Student Affairs or other University partners, including Homecoming, Family Weekend, and Fall and Spring hallmark programs.
Partners with the Associate Director and Director to ensure alignment between fraternity and sorority community engagement and the residential experience within chapter facilities, recognizing housing as a central component of the fraternity and sorority leadership environment.
Supports and advises one governing council.
Supports formal recruitment and intake efforts for all councils.
Provides oversight of council-related assessment and accountability efforts, including FSL departmental expectations, awards and recognition processes, academic performance tracking, membership data, and projected growth metrics.
Oversees fraternity and sorority risk management efforts, including policy education, compliance monitoring, and review of event documentation such as Certificates of Insurance (COIs).
Collaborates with FSL Operations Manager to ensure contract creation and documentation are submitted according to university processes for council and community events.
Develops and manages FSL publications, promotional efforts, presentations, and social media accounts to support a cohesive community presence.
Provides direct supervision to two (2) Coordinators of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Maintains undergraduate staffing by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training student employees, including the FSL Resident Assistants, and implementing accountability processes for student staff.
Serves as a liaison to international organizations and chapter advisors.
Serves on University committees as needed.
Serves as a member of the Dean On-call team for emergency/crisis response.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Master’s degree in higher education or related field.
2-4 years’ professional experience in higher education or related field or a combination of professional experience and undergraduate leadership experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
Housing and/or Fraternity and Sorority Life experience.
Membership in an international or national fraternity or sorority.
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge communication, mediation and interpersonal techniques.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
Skill in leadership techniques, program planning and assessment skills.
Skill in Microsoft Windows navigation.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to develop and maintain productive collaborative relations.
Ability to develop and implement training programs.
Ability to manage multiple administrative tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work in StarRez Housing Management software.
Ability to create forms, manage rosters, and otherwise operate student engagement software Engage.
