About the Role
The Social Media Professional I supports communications and marketing for the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources. This role creates and implements digital strategies, manages social media presence, and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and partners to tell the school’s story.
Position Summary Working under the Director of Communications, the Social Media Professional I plans and produces content for social media and other digital platforms. Responsibilities include managing the content calendar, drafting copy, capturing photos and videos, and supporting integrated marketing campaigns. The position may also assist with web and print materials and occasionally contribute to broader digital initiatives.
Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy (50%)
– Plan, create, publish, and monitor social media content aligned with Warnell’s communications strategy; manage the social media calendar across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other platforms; ensure brand consistency; create platform‑specific graphics, videos, and stories; capture and edit visual content; engage with audiences; analyze performance and adjust tactics; support paid and organic growth strategies; provide coverage of events and emergency communications.
Outreach & Collaboration (25%)
– Partner with the Director of Communications, Dean, and leadership to shape initiatives; coordinate with student recruitment and outreach teams; promote student engagement opportunities; attend faculty and student events to capture media; consult on social media best practices; implement engagement tactics such as takeovers, polls, and Q&A campaigns.
Project Management (15%)
– Manage communications projects using project management software; schedule posts via social media platforms; track milestones; collaborate with vendors for advertising campaigns.
Other Duties (10%)
– Perform additional communications and marketing tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, natural resources, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience creating digital and print content for marketing, communications, or recruitment.
Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years’ experience in higher education, science communication, or a related field.
Familiarity with UGA brand standards and campus culture.
Photography and/or video production experience.
Knowledge of design and publishing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
Knowledge of SEO, analytics, and digital advertising strategies.
