Director of Facilities and Assistant Activities Director
Southern Boone County R-I Schools is seeking a highly organized, forward‑thinking leader to serve as Director of Facilities and Assistant Activities Director. This position places primary emphasis on overseeing and advancing all district facilities, grounds, and operations.
The Director of Facilities will lead the planning, maintenance, and long‑term improvement of all district buildings, stadiums, athletic fields, and grounds. This role is responsible for supervising custodial and maintenance staff, managing budgets, and ensuring that all facilities are safe, functional, and aligned with the district’s vision for growth. The individual will provide support with activity and event coordination, and supervision of activities.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Facilities Management, or related field
Missouri Administrator Certification (or ability to obtain)
Experience in facilities management, operations, or school administration
Demonstrated leadership experience supervising teams
Knowledge of school plant operations and maintenance systems
Willingness to join and participate in the Missouri School Plant Managers Association (MSPMA)
Willingness to obtain MSPMA Core Certification
Salary Range $65,000 – $75,000
Contract Terms 12-month position, 8 hours per day (flexible based on district needs, including occasional evenings and weekends)
Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Director of Facilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide leadership and direct supervision of all custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff across the district
Oversee the care, maintenance, and improvement of all district facilities, including buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, and outdoor spaces
Develop and implement short‑ and long‑term facilities plans to move the district forward
Lead and manage special projects, including renovations, upgrades, and new construction support
Maintain and manage the district facilities and maintenance budget; approve purchase orders
Conduct routine inspections of all facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency
Manage and prioritize work orders and facility requests using the district’s management system
Coordinate district‑wide event setup in collaboration with custodial and maintenance teams
Establish schedules for building use, including evenings and weekends
Oversee groundskeeping, landscaping, and seasonal maintenance planning
Evaluate custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff and support their professional growth
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, inspections, and district policies
Assist the Activities Director with coordination of school events and activities
Support scheduling and facility use for extracurricular programs
Help ensure facilities are properly prepared for activities and events
Provide support to athletic and activity programs as needed
Build, develop, and retain a high‑performing facilities team
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride in district facilities
Lead by example through visibility, collaboration, and hands‑on support when needed
Communicate effectively with staff, administration, and community stakeholders
Working Conditions This position requires travel between district buildings and occasional out‑of‑district travel. The role involves regular interaction with staff, students, and community members. The schedule may extend beyond the traditional workday, including evenings and weekends, depending on facility needs, projects, and district events. The individual in this role is expected to prioritize responsibilities and adjust work hours accordingly to ensure all operational needs are met.
