The Tuscarawas County Public Library System has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director to join its administrative team!

The Tuscarawas County Public Library System - with its Main Library, four branches, and Mobile Services division - provides vital services to the communities in Tuscarawas County.
Status: Full Time, 40 hrs per week; some evenings and weekends required
Salary: Starting range of $58,000 to $68,000 per year; pay rate commensurate with skills and prior experience

Qualifications
MLS (Master of Library Science) or MLIS (Master of Library Information Science) from an American Library Association accredited library school Three to five years of library management experience required Experience in an Assistant Director or similar senior management role preferred May be required to load, unload, lift, shelve, transfer and/or transport materials up to 50 lbs, including cargo and book drop Must provide own transportation and be available evenings and some Saturdays Required Knowledge
Solid knowledge of public library service including best practices in collection development, facilities management, budget management, and employment law practices Strong customer service background Excellent knowledge of emerging technologies Proficiency with Library ILS and Microsoft applications Required Skills
Self-motivation and ability to motivate staff Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to lead and mentor several different teams to achieve organizational goals Ability to resolve conflicts, overseeing and following up as needed Ability to use evidence-based principles related to creating and implementing departmental budgets and departmental strategic plan Ability to effectively network and represent the library to business and community leaders Willingness to be active in the Ohio Library Council including travel to trainings and meetings Responsibilities
Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluating of staff; ensures that staff perform duties according to standardized procedures; implements library policies Assumes duties of the Director in the Director’s absence Assists the Director with regular duties and special projects as assigned Directs extension operations, in conjunction with branch and mobile services supervisors and in alignment with administrative goals and objectives Fosters and maintains cooperative relationships within the library system’s service district, including village and township officials in conjunction with branch supervisors Oversees insurance claims in conjunction with Support Services Manager and Director Oversees system-wide statistics, preparing quarterly, annual, and other statistical reports Completes the statistical portion of the library’s annual state and national reports Advocates for library funding at local, state, and national level Oversees safety and security concerns for the library system including scheduling and supervision of security guards at the Main library Develops and updates, in conjunction with the Library Director and administration, the library’s Code of Conduct, as well as policies and procedures related to safety and security within the library system Mentors and coaches managers and supervisors regarding application of the library system’s code of conduct and, when necessary, customer disciplinary actions Maintains the library system’s incident and accident reports, records of customer progressive discipline actions and related legal documents with law enforcement or the courts; keeps the Director and management abreast of safety and security related issues Monitors Main library facility and corrects conditions that may pose a security threat Monitors customer usage of the library facilities and takes a proactive approach in preventing disruptive or unsafe behaviors or conditions Supervises library buildings and staff at appointed times including emergency situations and closings Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports library goals and objectives
