Job Summary The Director of Dining Services is the strategic business leader of the community’s food and beverage/culinary operation. The role ensures resident and client satisfaction by providing a consistently high‑quality product and best‑in‑class hospitality while meeting financial goals and fostering a positive work environment. You will oversee the development and implementation of departmental strategies and uphold the Compass Community Living service strategy.

Leading Food & Beverage Operation

Develop and implement overall operating strategy aligned with Compass Community Living and client business strategy.

Take full ownership of driving desired outcomes, acting as the business owner and holding the on‑site leadership team accountable for service behaviors.

Evaluate personnel, operations, and culinary situations quickly and recommend appropriate actions.

Maintain a professional and resilient demeanor during stressful periods and adapt to problem‑solving situations.

Conduct daily walk‑throughs to ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations and Compass Group standards.

Direct and conduct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs.

Lead pre‑meal briefings and staff meetings to ensure ongoing communication across all food and beverage areas.

Advise executives, supervisors, co‑workers, and subordinates via telephone, written reports, e‑mail, or in person with timely updates.

Business and Financial Competence

Understand market dynamics, enterprise objectives, and Compass Community Living’s business to diagnose strengths and weaknesses, anticipate opportunities and risks, and develop strategies.

Recognize and understand P&L drivers to analyze results, identify opportunities, and implement plans to achieve expected outcomes.

Develop overall budget, operate the account in accordance with the approved budget, and deliver maximum value for client spending.

Coach and support the team to manage wages, food & beverage cost, and controllable expenses (e.g., restaurant supplies, uniforms).

Review financial reports to determine account performance against budget.

Work with the team to resolve concerns and improve the department’s financial performance.

Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

Understand the client’s business model to prioritize resident needs.

Maintain visibility and relationships with residents, staff, and other community departments to be seen as a member of the client’s management team.

Review resident satisfaction data to identify improvement areas and share feedback with all team members.

Communicate and mentor individuals to meet resident expectations and adjust service as needed.

Stay aware of market trends, introduce new food and beverage products, and ensure client satisfaction while generating revenue.

Empower employees to exceed resident and client expectations.

Team Building & Management

Lead regular team member meetings.

Create a positive work environment by modeling appropriate behaviors and motivating team members.

Set performance, budget, and team goals.

Solicit employee feedback, apply an open‑door policy, and review satisfaction results to address issues.

Identify developmental needs, coach, and mentor team members toward performance objectives.

Promote cross‑training and professional growth for the entire team.

Recruit talent with behavioral‑based interviewing and retain them.

Ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees.

Maintain empathetic leadership while holding self and team members accountable.

Preferred Qualifications

B.S. in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. + four years of directly related experience preferred.

5–7 years of direct foodservice operational management with inventory and purchasing knowledge.

Strong knowledge of food and catering trends focusing on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.

Previous P&L accountability or contract‑managed service experience desirable.

Strong supervisory, leadership, management, and coaching capabilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong financial, budgetary, accounting, and computational skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, e‑mail, and internet applications.
