Kids in the Game provides unforgettable day camp experiences for hundreds of children across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Westchester, and Jersey City. As part of our summer camp leadership cohort, you will join a dynamic team of Camp Directors, Assistant Directors, and over 275 coaches running outstanding programming at 13 summer day camps.
The Kids in the Game Summer Camp Experience Our camps blend sports, creativity, and community to shape confident, compassionate, and connected kids. Each day is fueled by energy, laughter, and belonging. We offer sports and games, arts and crafts, STEM enrichment, field trips, swim activities, theme weeks, and all‑camp events.
Sports & Games Specialist Role & Key Tasks
Report to the Programming Assistant Director and Camp Leadership Team.
Lead structured activity periods, model for counselors, and ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging sports environment.
Arrive by 7:45 am daily via public transportation or personal vehicle and stay on‑site until 4:15 pm (or until 5:30 pm twice per week for after‑care).
Participate in pre‑summer virtual and on‑site trainings during May and June.
Work full‑time during the summer (late June through August).

Activity Leadership & Instruction
Lead 45‑minute sports and group games activity periods.
Provide structured, age‑appropriate instruction for Pre‑K through middle school.
Teach and facilitate a variety of team sports and group games, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, football, whiffle ball, pickleball, track & field, capture the flag, castle ball, wizard ball, and more.
Adapt activities for different ages, skill levels, and learning styles.
Align daily activities with weekly camp themes and special event programming.
Camper Engagement & Youth Development
Foster a love of movement, teamwork, and physical activity.
Encourage campers to try new skills, take healthy risks, and celebrate effort.
Build campers’ confidence, motor skills, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
Celebrate camper achievements and milestones.
Team Collaboration & Support
Work closely with counselors to support sports and games activities.
Communicate clearly with Camp Directors and Assistant Directors about camper needs, behavior, or safety concerns.
Support all‑camp events, theme days, transitions, and special programming.
Contribute positively to staff culture and team morale.
Safety, Supervision & Organization
Prioritize camper safety and follow all health regulations and camp safety protocols.
Set up, maintain, and break down sports areas and equipment daily.
Maintain organized, clean, and safe activity spaces.
Actively supervise campers during activities, transitions, and outdoor play.
Assist with incident documentation and reporting as directed.
Seasonal Work Expectations & Summer Schedule Pre‑Summer Training (May–June):
• Part‑time participation in virtual and in‑person training.
• Required attendance: virtual trainings, three on‑site training days the week before camp, and an in‑person field day training.
• Training is mandatory and paid.
Summer Camp (Late June – August):
• Hours: Monday‑Friday, approximately 7:45 am – 4:15 pm (after‑care to 5:30 pm two days per week).
• Full‑time, in‑person at assigned camp location.
• Camp size: 30–100+ campers, 10–30+ staff.
Requirements
Enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about youth development through sports.
Experience leading sports, recreation, or group activities with children.
Confident managing groups of varying sizes and age ranges.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Excellent organization, adaptability, and problem‑solving abilities.
Pass background checks and provide medical clearance.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements & Active Coaching Expectations
Stand, walk, and move for extended periods, including outdoors and in the gym.
Walk several blocks between program locations.
Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to engage with children.
Climb stairs in school buildings or community facilities.
Lift and carry up to 25–40 lbs of equipment or supplies.
Participate in active games, running, jumping, and demonstrating basic sports skills.
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Maintain visual and auditory awareness for effective supervision.
Benefits Competitive part‑time seasonal compensation plus training stipend.
• Pre‑Summer Compensation: $375 total, broken into virtual ($150), on‑site training days ($150 total), and field day ($75).
• Summer pay: $650–$800 per week, depending on camp length and location.
• Biweekly salary payments during late June – August 2026.
