Overview Turn your summer into something extraordinary by becoming a Seasonal Art Specialist with Kids in the Game. This role offers a chance to empower staff, inspire campers, and build a summer that matters.

Art Specialist Role & Key Tasks As an Art Specialist, you will report to the Programming Assistant Director and Camp Leadership Team, working with counselors and fellow specialists to deliver daily visual arts and creative programming.

Activity Leadership & Instruction

Lead 45‑minute art activity periods.

Provide age‑appropriate instruction for Pre‑K through middle school.

Teach projects such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, mixed media, craft, process‑based activities, and theme‑based projects.

Adapt projects to age, skill level, and attention span.

Align daily activities with camp schedules and special programming.

Camper Engagement & Youth Development

Foster creativity, self‑expression, and confidence.

Encourage experimentation and sharing of ideas.

Support the development of fine motor skills, focus, and problem‑solving.

Celebrate artistic efforts.

Create reflection opportunities around artwork.

Team Collaboration & Support

Support counselors during art activities.

Communicate camper needs and supply considerations to leadership.

Assist with all‑camp events, theme days, art displays, and special programming.

Contribute to a positive staff culture and team morale.

Safety, Supervision & Organization

Prioritize camper safety, following health regulations and protocols.

Manage art materials, tools, and supplies appropriately.

Set up, maintain, and clean art spaces daily.

Supervise actively during activities, transitions, and cleanup.

Respond to behavior concerns and report promptly; assist with incident documentation.

Seasonal Work Expectations & Summer Schedule Pre‑Summer Work Expectations & Schedule

Participate in virtual and in‑person trainings during May and June.

Attend three on‑site training days the week before camp begins.

Complete an in‑person field day training.

Training attendance is mandatory and paid upon completion.

Summer Camp Schedule

Dates: Late June through August (7‑8 weeks depending on location).

Hours: Monday‑Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM.

Support at least two days per week of aftercare until ~5:30 PM.

Full‑time, in‑person at assigned camp location.

Camp size: 30–100+ campers with 10–30+ staff members.

Requirements

Enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about youth development through art.

Experience leading sports, recreation, or group activities with children.

Confident managing groups of varying sizes and age ranges.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Strong organization, adaptability, and problem‑solving abilities.

Pass background checks and provide medical clearance.

CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements & Active Coaching Expectations

Stand, walk, and move for extended periods; supervise outdoors and in gyms.

Walk several blocks, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed.

Climb stairs, lift up to 25‑40 lbs, and participate in active games.

Work outdoors in varied weather; maintain visual and auditory awareness.

Seasonal Compensation Structure This is a part‑time, seasonal position based in New York City. Art Specialists must participate in pre‑summer trainings (virtual and on‑site) and work full summer camp hours from late June to the end of August.

Pre‑Summer Compensation:

$375 total.

$150 for virtual trainings.

$150 for all three on‑site training days.

$75 for an in‑person field day in June.

Training attendance is mandatory; payment is earned upon completion.

Pay Schedule & Salary Range Pay is biweekly, from late June to August 2026.

All sites run for 8 weeks (except Westchester‑Crestwood and UWS camps, 7 weeks).

Weekly salary range: $650 to $800 per week (excluding training stipend).

8‑week total salary range: $5,200 to $6,400.

7‑week total salary range: $4,550 to $5,600.
