Boston Impact Initiative (BII) is a nonprofit impact investment fund dedicated to building a regenerative and equitable economy. Founded in 2013, BII invests in social enterprises and community-owned real estate to promote wealth-building opportunities, particularly within diverse communities. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), BII manages BII Fund I, which has invested $6.9M in 50 enterprises since 2017, and Fund II, closed at $22M in 2022, focusing on small businesses and community projects in Massachusetts and New England. Beyond capital investment, BII offers impact investing education, such as the Advancing Regenerative Capital (ARC) Fellowship, which has trained numerous fund managers across the U.S. to stimulate community-driven economic projects. About this Role The Director of Development & Investor Relations at BII plays a crucial role in advancing the organization’s mission by securing financial resources. This position’s primary focus is on obtaining significant philanthropic capital from various foundations and donors to support BII’s operations and field-building efforts. The Director will manage and deepen the organization’s relationships with institutional funders, corporate partners, and mission-aligned investors. Close collaboration with the CEO, senior leadership, and Board of Directors is essential to build strategic partnerships and enhance investor engagement. This role also involves creating development strategies aligned with BII’s priorities, managing fundraising goals, and ensuring effective external representation in philanthropic forums.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a multi-year development strategy aligned with BII’s organizational priorities.
Secure significant multi-year general operating and programmatic grants from foundations and institutional funders (six- and seven-figure experience preferred).
Cultivate and expand corporate partnerships to diversify and stabilize revenue.
Build and steward a portfolio of philanthropic and mission-aligned partners capable of providing reliable, recurring capital.
Collaborate with senior leadership to explore and support earned revenue strategies.
Establish annual fundraising goals and monitor progress against defined benchmarks.
Strengthen relationships with existing investors and philanthropic stakeholders.
Partner with the communications team to ensure consistent investor reporting and engagement.
Requirements
8+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising or advancement, including at least three years in a leadership capacity.
Demonstrated success securing substantial multi-year general operating grants and institutional funding.
Experience cultivating corporate partnerships or institutional funders.
A proven ability to build and steward long-term funding relationships.
Strategic thinking and experience aligning revenue strategy with organizational priorities.
Strong financial literacy and comfort engaging sophisticated funders and investors.
Experience supervising staff and strengthening development systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree required.
