
Financial Specialist Senior

Position Summary
This position provides fiscal administration and financial oversight of maintenance department expenditures, procurement transactions, and related financial activities for the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility.
The position reviews and processes financial transactions associated with maintenance operation, assigns and verifies accounting codes, monitors encumbrances and expenditures, reconciles financial records, and resolves financial discrepancies.
This position compiles and analyzes financial information related to maintenance expenditures, prepares fiscal reports, monitors budget activity, and maintains documentation required for financial accountability and audit purposes. The position also provides consultation to maintenance staff regarding fiscal procedures, procurement documentation requirements, and financial tracking processes.
Salary Information This position is in pay schedule/range 02-13 with a starting pay rate of
$26.08 /hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position that requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
Remote work is not an option for this position.
Shift: Monday‑Friday 7:45pm‑4:30pm
Qualifications Applicants will be assessed on relevant experience, including the following:
Modern bookkeeping, purchasing and procurement, policies and procedures, accounting & auditing practices and principles.
Working knowledge and usage of MS‑Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), state accounting systems, and the Internet.
Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
Problem‑solving skills to identify issues and follow through with solutions.
A screening questionnaire will determine if candidates are minimally qualified to continue in the selection process.
