
Director, Environmental Health & Safety

Responsibilities
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Director is responsible for leading and advancing the organization’s EHS strategy across both site operations and global programs. This role ensures operational compliance, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, and shapes enterprise-wide EHS standards and initiatives. The EHS Director serves as the senior safety leader for the site while also partnering with global stakeholders to develop and implement scalable EHS programs, governance frameworks, and best practices across multiple locations. This role combines operational oversight, strategic program leadership, regulatory compliance, and culture development to ensure a world‑class safety environment across all facilities and operations.
Core Roles
Strategic Safety Leader – Lead the development and execution of EHS strategy aligned with organizational objectives and drive a proactive safety culture.
Site EHS Authority – Serve as the senior EHS authority for site operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and operational safety standards.
Global Program Leader – Develop and implement global EHS programs, standards, and governance frameworks.
Compliance and Risk Management Leader – Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations while proactively identifying and mitigating risk.
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Develop and execute the organization’s EHS strategy across site and global operations. Establish and maintain global EHS standards, policies, and management systems.
Provide executive‑level reporting on EHS performance, risk trends, and improvement initiatives.
Lead cross‑regional collaboration to standardize best practices and share lessons learned across sites.
Influence organizational leadership to prioritize safety, sustainability, and operational resilience.
Site Operational Leadership
Provide direct oversight of all EHS activities at the site, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Partner with site leadership to integrate safety into operational planning, maintenance, and capital projects.
Lead the site safety committee and drive employee engagement in safety initiatives.
Ensure site personnel and vendors follow established safety procedures and training requirements.
Oversee site environmental compliance including waste management, emissions control, and water discharge programs.
Global Program Development
Develop and implement global EHS programs, frameworks, and compliance systems.
Lead initiatives to harmonize EHS processes, reporting structures, and operational safety standards across locations.
Partner with regional EHS leaders to deploy global initiatives and directives.
Support expansion initiatives including new facility builds, acquisitions, and retrofits while ensuring alignment with global EHS standards.
Risk Management & Incident Oversight
Direct incident management and response for environmental, health, and safety events.
Lead complex incident investigations and root cause analyses to drive systemic improvements.
Establish global incident reporting and trend analysis systems.
Ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
Construction & Vendor Safety
Provide EHS oversight for construction, new builds, and major retrofit projects.
Partner with engineering, development, and contractor teams to ensure safe project execution.
Establish vendor safety management frameworks and ensure third‑party compliance with company safety standards.
Emergency Preparedness & Occupational Health
Develop enterprise emergency preparedness strategies and crisis response protocols.
Ensure effective emergency drills and readiness across facilities.
Oversee occupational health programs including workplace monitoring, air quality assessments, and noise exposure management.
Support employee health initiatives including CPR, First Aid, and AED training programs.
Team Leadership & Development
Build and lead high‑performing EHS teams across sites and regions.
Provide leadership and direction to site EHS professionals and contracted safety personnel. Develop training programs and leadership development pathways for EHS professionals.
Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in complex operational environments. Experience managing multi‑site or global EHS programs.
Deep knowledge of environmental regulations, occupational safety standards, and risk management frameworks.
Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive organizational change.
Strong experience with incident investigation, safety management systems, and regulatory compliance.
