Senior HOP Specialist

The Senior HOP Specialist provides subject matter expertise in Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and Organizational Learning, partnering with business and functional stakeholders to embed HOP principles into operational excellence, safety, and investigation programs. This role is responsible for strengthening global organizational capability, mentoring leaders, enabling learning teams, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement across Chevron.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Organizational Learning & Investigation within the OE/HSE TEC organization.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Serve as a subject matter expert in Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and Organizational Learning, supporting integration of HOP principles into safety, operations, and operational excellence programs.

Collaborate with cross‑functional and asset stakeholders to embed HOP concepts, tools, and behaviors into existing processes and business rhythms.

Design, develop, and deploy learning solutions, workshops, and capability‑building interventions aligned with HOP and organizational learning strategies.

Build and mature organizational capability by mentoring leaders, learning team leads, facilitators, and practitioners across the enterprise.

Coach leaders and teams in risk assessment, understanding human‑system interactions, and identifying likely points of failure and safeguards.

Support learning teams and investigations by applying HOP principles to understand work as done, system influences, and organizational learning opportunities.

Contribute to development and sustainment of a learn and improve culture, reinforcing consistent HOP messaging across leadership, workforce, and contractors.

Partner with OE/HSE practitioners to align HOP approaches with related OE processes including Control of Work (CoW), Incident Investigation & Reporting (II&R), and Chevron Operational Excellence Model (COEM).

Support global consistency while enabling practical, scalable solutions adaptable across assets and organizations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (4‑year degree) in Behavioral Science, Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in the application of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and/or Human Factors Engineering.

Demonstrated experience applying HOP concepts, tools, and theories in operational or organizational settings.

Working knowledge of OE‑related processes and field application of human performance principles.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Industrial / Organizational Psychology, Human Factors Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Formal HOP or human performance‑related certifications or advanced training.

Experience as a HOP practitioner operationalizing HOP concepts within large, complex organizations.

Industry experience in operations and/or safety, supporting learning teams, investigations, or operational excellence initiatives.

Proven experience growing organizational capability and influencing leaders across multiple levels.

Relocation Options Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
