The Technical Direction Residency Program is committed to creating career pathways for candidates underrepresented in Technical Direction, a critical field in our industry. The position offers opportunities to serve as City Center’s Assistant Technical Director (ATD) and work with the Technical Director to oversee the planning and execution of the construction, rental, and purchasing of all scenery, props, lighting, video, and sound elements for Mainstage productions. The ATD will also work with the Venue Operations team to help advance rental productions and support NYCC administrative events. In the second year of the residency, the ATD will have the opportunity to lead the technical team on select projects—including rental clients and internal mainstage productions. Responsibilities

Assist in the technical design, drafting, engineering, and scheduling of technical elements for all mainstage programs. Prepare build drawings for in‑house scenic construction and/or bid packages for scenic shops. Help maintain all technical drawings of space and equipment for venues and studios. Prepare shop orders for equipment rental needs. Works with Technical Director to evaluate costs and feasibility of designs. Support any technical requirements for in‑house events/productions, including Studio, Administrative, and Front of House events. Collaborates with multiple departments to support the technical needs of mainstage and studio rental clients. Assists in the purchasing and tracking of technical production equipment. Evening show coverage with the Production and Venue Operations departments as scheduled. Support the Production and Venue Operations departments as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications

1+ years of technical experience in theater and/or dance with exposure to lighting, sound, and video production. Proficient ability to draft CAD drawings with Vectorworks. Must currently possess or obtain the following FDNY certifications within 3 months of hire:

F03 Fireguard for Indoor Place of Public Assembly C15 Certificate of Fitness Flame Retardant Treatment

Scheduling flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays dictated by the production and performance schedule. Strong leadership skills effective for a mixed environment of both union and non‑union employees. Proficiency with various software programs including MS Office Suite, Production and Venue Management Software, and Adobe Premiere. Must be able to get to locations outside of the office independently, without physical assistance. Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds. Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., copier, fax machine). Must have vision correctable to a level where an individual can operate a computer, visualize text on a computer monitor. Working knowledge of sound equipment including Dante AV network systems, analog and digital mixing consoles, and QLab 4/5 a plus. Ability to approach work with a spirit of collaboration and cooperation. Ability to oversee multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Attention to detail and a passion for problem solving.
