Overview The Stamford History Center, also known as the Stamford Historical Society, is seeking an Executive Director (part‑time).

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Stamford History Center, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization.

Responsibilities

Development and execution of a clear short‑ and long‑term vision for the organization, one that preserves, presents, and celebrates the city of Stamford, Connecticut;

Establishment of community and corporate partnerships;

Fundraising and grant‑writing;

Community engagement and growth of the membership rolls;

Oversight of exhibits, ongoing research, and the educational program;

Supervision of the Associate Director, the Education Coordinator, and an executive assistant;

Facilitation of a productive, ongoing dialogue with city government regarding funding and the needs of the facility;

Stewardship of the headquarters (the Martha Hoyt School) and the Hoyt‑Barnum House;

Cultivation of collegial relationships with staff of neighboring cultural and historical institutions;

Protection of the organization’s financial assets (in concert with the Board Treasurer); and

Compliance with the directives of the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

An educational background in history, Museum Studies, American Studies, organizational management, or a related field;

Experience in management of non‑profit organizations;

Fundraising, public relations, and networking acumen;

A hands‑on leadership style;

Grant‑writing experience and knowledge;

Effective written and verbal communication skills;

The desire and ability to be the public face of the Stamford History Center;

An ability to form meaningful, productive working relationships with volunteers and staff; and

A connection to the Stamford, Connecticut community.
