Study Abroad Communications & Marketing Intern (Center for Global Engagement) Position Type: Institutional Employment Position Status: Part‑Time Pay Rate: $13.75 per hour The Communications & Marketing Intern supports the engagement and outreach efforts of the Study Abroad unit within the Center for Global Engagement. This position offers hands‑on experience producing digital and print content while working in a collaborative, supportive environment. Content created may be used to build a professional portfolio. Responsibilities Draft and schedule social media content promoting Study Abroad programs and events Develop audience‑focused communication strategies Design branded graphics for digital and print use Assist with email marketing campaigns Support website updates and content management Create presentations and promotional materials for events Design apparel and promotional items and coordinate ordering processes Represent Study Abroad at events as needed Attend required professional development trainings throughout the academic year Assist with special projects as assigned, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engagement and Outreach Maintain a professional appearance while wearing CGE‑issued apparel Qualifications Current JMU undergraduate student in communications, graphic design, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva Availability to work 10–12 hours per week during standard business hours, with occasional evenings or weekends Experience with Cascade or other website content management systems (CMS) preferred Strong written and visual communication skills Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and collaboratively Openness to feedback and adherence to brand guidelines Previous JMU study abroad participation preferred Conditions of Employment Students must be degree‑seeking students, enrolled on at least a half‑time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate) Students must have a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I‑9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
