Job Summary/Description:
Do you have a passion for storytelling that doesn't punch out on Friday afternoon? Are you a newsroom leader who thrives when the pressure is on and the cameras are live? We’re looking for a Weekend Evening Anchor/Multimedia Journalist to join our team at WRDW-WAGT in Augusta, Georgia.
Responsibilities
Command the desk: Anchor our weekend evening newscasts with energy, authority, and a conversational style that connects with our audience.
Uncover the "why": Spend your weekdays as a Multimedia Journalist, enterprise-ing original stories, shooting, writing, and editing compelling content that stands out.
Own the digital space: You aren't just a "TV person"—you’ll engage our audience on social media, push breaking news to our digital platforms, and ensure our stories live everywhere our viewers are.
Lead the newsroom: Act as a mentor and leader during weekend shifts, helping to guide the editorial process and maintain the high standards of WRDW-WAGT.
React with urgency: Pivot quickly when news breaks, providing live reports and digital updates that keep our community informed in real-time.
Build community roots: Represent the station at local events and build a network of sources that helps us stay ahead of the competition.
Qualifications
On-camera experience: 1-2 years of previous reporting or anchoring experience in a professional newsroom (you know your way around a teleprompter and a live shot).
Technical savvy: Proficiency in shooting and editing your own stories—you’re a one-person powerhouse who can deliver high-quality visuals and sound.
Digital-first mindset: You understand that the story starts on social and mobile, and you know how to optimize content for different platforms.
Killer news judgment: You can spot a great story from a mile away and know how to frame it for maximum impact.
Strong writing skills: You write for the ear and the eye, crafting scripts that are punchy, accurate, and engaging.
Cool under pressure: You thrive in the fast-paced environment of a live newsroom and can handle the "controlled chaos" of breaking news with ease.
Collaborative spirit: You’re a team player who works seamlessly with producers, photographers, and digital editors to get the job done.
A good driving record is necessary. MVR background check required.
