Overview

The Children’s Discovery Center is a community-driven children’s museum project actively moving from planning into construction and full-scale fundraising campaigns. We are transforming a former movie theater into a vibrant, hands-on space for kids and families from across our region. With construction beginning and campaigns underway, we are focused on execution, coordination, and opening our doors. Led by a Board of Directors and backed by strong community support, this role will help drive progress and ensure we move efficiently from this phase into a successful opening day—bringing a place where children can play, learn, and imagine to life. Director of Development Job Description Guidelines & Expectations:

The Children’s Discovery Center’s Director of Development serves as a central point of coordination for organizational projects, communications, and operations during the design & construction phase of the project. This role ensures alignment across teams, maintains organized documentation, supports marketing and fundraising efforts, and assists the Board of Directors in moving the project forward efficiently and strategically. Description:

This position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the potential to become full-time and shall continue until dissolved by the Board of Directors. Position Details Part-time: A minimum of 20 hours per week, with the potential to become full-time. Reports to the Board of Directors Compensation begins at $30 per hour and may vary based on experience. Key Responsibilities Lead fundraising initiatives, including donor outreach, campaign development, and grant writing Oversee public relations activities and ensure consistent, effective organizational messaging Support marketing and communications efforts, including managing social media, newsletters, and website Represent the organization professionally in community and in stakeholder interactions Take initiative and ownership of projects, contributing to overall organizational success Coordinate project meetings and track action items to ensure progress Establish & maintain organized records, systems, and workflows Support startup operations by assisting building foundational processes and structure Assist with Board coordination Ideal Candidate: Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently Thrives in a startup nonprofit environment and enjoys building systems from the ground up Takes ownership and is committed to the organization’s success Strong communicator, comfortable working with boards, volunteers, and stakeholders Adaptable, tech-comfortable, and detail-oriented Passionate about community impact and mission-driven work Qualifications: Availability for daytime meetings is required Strong organizational and documentation skills Self-starter with excellent follow-through Strong written and verbal communication skills Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail Proficiency with Google Drive and Google Workspace Board Communication:

Maintain open communication with the board and staff. Submit clear written reports to the board president in advance. Board meetings should focus on concise, decision-focused updates, while operational discussions occur outside meetings for efficiency. Collaboration:

Work closely with volunteer board members in a small nonprofit setting. Respect their time and expertise, provide proactive updates, and maintain a cooperative, solution-focused team environment. Professionalism:

Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions with board members, staff, volunteers, and the public, representing the organization in alignment with its mission. Board Oversight:

The role operates under the board’s oversight and strategic direction. The board monitors performance, sets priorities, and approves major decisions, while the individual implements the board’s vision and maintains regular communication for alignment.
