What to Expect The Tax Manager (Income) is responsible for the review of federal and state & local tax compliance, federal and state & local income tax provision calculation and documentation for financial statement reporting, reconciliation of lease asset portfolio and deferred tax items and all related federal and state & local income research, planning and support. In addition, this role will review foreign payment reporting, and assist with federal tax audits, responding to inquiries from HQ and other affiliates, providing business support and researching relevant current legislative and accounting developments and preparing written technical memorandum as requested.
Responsibilities
Review all federal, state, & local income tax compliance including tax returns and workpapers to ensure all data is accumulated and analyzed for reporting. Review federal, state, & local quarterly estimated tax calculations and estimated tax payments. Assist with federal income tax examinations including but not limited to gathering and analyzing data in response to Information Document Requests.
Prepare and review consolidated federal, state, & local income tax provision and separate income tax provisions for insurance entities, including review of deferred tax reconciliations, effective tax rate reconciliation, tax accounts, and reporting. Monitor new general ledger accounts, document book and tax treatment to ensure proper income tax accounting and identify and maintain federal tax reserves (Fin 48).
Review and reconcile fixed assets for income tax purposes, primarily lease vehicle portfolio. Manage federal and state local income tax information returns. Assist Senior Manager with periodic tax planning strategy evaluation. May manage annual Form 1099 IRS notice responses and penalty abatement process, and assist in preparation of Form 1098 to comply with IRS requirements and customers’ inquiries.
Review and prepare foreign payment reporting and work with Accounting & Treasury to ensure compliance with federal tax withholding and reporting obligations including but not limited to annual foreign withholding tax returns, BEPS report preparation, Pillar 2 global minimum tax, and all other foreign affiliate requests. Support annual preparation of transfer pricing analysis.
Perform ad‑hoc federal, state, & local tax research and documentation including support pertaining to new business initiative and associated tax implications.
Qualifications
Minimum 5‑7 years’ progressive experience with income tax and tax preparation software and lease servicing systems.
Public accounting experience preferred.
Automotive or financial services industries preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics or related field.
CPA and/or Masters in Business Taxation preferred.
Technical knowledge in the area of federal, state & local income tax.
Proven knowledge of tax laws with the ability to research complex federal, state & local income tax issues.
Proven knowledge of lease servicing systems.
Strong research skills and proficient with tax preparation software.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills with proven ability using Microsoft Excel and Access.
Ability to research complex tax issues and provide guidance and support.
Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Strong business and technical writing skills.
Problem solver and strong decision‑making ability.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
