The USPTO advises the President of the United States, Secretary of Commerce and other U.S. Government agencies on intellectual property policy, protection, and enforcement.
Job Overview The Director, Project Management is a client‑facing leadership role responsible for overseeing event operations across the USPTO campus. This role ensures seamless delivery of in‑person and virtual events by directing operational strategy, managing technical teams, and maintaining the highest standards of audiovisual and collaborative technologies. The position provides direct supervision to a team of up to six AV Managers and holds full accountability for the planning, execution, technical performance, and client satisfaction of event services. The Director, Project Management partners closely with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, and clients to ensure all events are accessible, technologically sound, and executed with excellence.
Qualifications/Skills
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with progressive responsibility within the event management, conference services, or professional audiovisual industry.
Extensive and current knowledge in the design, operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment and systems.
Extensive current knowledge and operation of various streaming and collaborative technologies including, but not limited to Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and VBrick Rev; as well as video teleconferencing formats.
Extensive knowledge of event management software systems.
5 years’ experience in managing administrative and technical teams, both internal and subcontractors in long‑term projects and daily functions.
Knowledge and experience in ensuring relevant events meet Section 508 Compliance Accessibility Standards.
Knowledge of current design software, including vector editing (Adobe Illustrator), page layout (Adobe InDesign), animation and interactivity (Flash, jQuery, PopCharts, Director), and video‑editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut).
Knowledge of professional production hardware interfaces such as Crestron control systems, TriCaster and Ross production switchers, Panasonic cinema, Sony HDC & PTZ cameras & controllers, Allen & Heath iLive, SSL System T, Avid Venue audio consoles, and other small platform audio consoles/mixers.
Other Requirements
Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight; must be able to maneuver in an often tightly‑quartered environment.
Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
