Senior Director of Communication
Primary Purpose
Provide leadership and strategic direction for district communications, branding, marketing, and public relations. Develop communication strategies that promote transparency, strengthen community engagement, and support district strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
Education / Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
- Master's degree preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Strategic communication planning
- Public relations and media relations
- Crisis communication
- Strong writing and presentation skills
Experience
- 5+ years experience in communications, public relations, or marketing
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement a districtwide communications plan.
- Coordinate messaging related to district initiatives and priorities.
- Support and develop communication efforts for major district initiatives and programs.
- Develop and execute communication strategies that highlight strategic initiatives focused on student growth and academic achievement; recruitment and retention of high quality staff; reframing public narratives to reflect the strengths of our district; and expanding community and public participation in district initiatives.
Branding and Marketing
- Lead district branding and marketing efforts.
- Ensure consistency of the district brand across all platforms.
- Promote district achievements, programs, and student success stories.
- Create targeted marketing campaigns to spotlight and promote choice instruction programs, increasing awareness of specialized learning opportunities within the district.
Media Relations
- Serve as the district media contact.
- Coordinate press releases and media responses.
- Manage crisis communication and public messaging.
Internal Communications
- Develop communication strategies for district employees.
- Support communication between district leadership and staff.
- Collaborate with district leadership to create branding and communication materials aimed at staff recruitment and retention to ensure a high‑quality workforce.
Community Engagement
- Strengthen relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Support and develop community outreach initiatives and district events.
- Assist with communication for bond initiatives and other major district initiatives.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of rules, regulations, and practices.
- Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Must be present regularly in person.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
Working Conditions / Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent district‑wide travel and occasional out‑of‑district travel. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
