Job Description El Buen seeks an Associate Director of Development (ADD) to support the implementation of fundraising activities and amplify El Buen’s mission in the philanthropic community during a period of organizational growth. The ADD will join a passionate, hard‑working team of fundraising and communications professionals to aid in securing a robust annual development goal exceeding $6 million, including over $600,000 in unrestricted dollars through campaigns, individual donors, foundations, corporate giving, and special events.
Purpose As part of the Development team, this position reports to the Director of Development and Communications (DODC) and assists with the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual and corporate giving program to support the organization’s unrestricted funding goals. The ADD will be responsible for Annual Campaigns and Corporate Giving, including creating campaign appeals, corporate sponsorship packages, and donor cultivation and stewardship materials. This position has the potential to oversee additional support staff.
Work Hours This is a full‑time, exempt position based at El Buen headquarters, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role requires flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as needed. Following a three‑month probationary period, employees may work one day per week remotely, or up to two days per week if commuting from a location more than one hour from the office. Employees are expected to attend all staff training, professional development activities, and in‑person organizational events.
What You Will Be Doing
Annual Fund, Campaigns & Corporate Giving (50%)
Support the Development team with the management of El Buen’s Annual Fund, including executing digital and direct mail appeals, peer‑to‑peer fundraisers, and special events.
Conceptualize, plan, execute, and operate campaigns such as: ¡Avanzando Futuros! Brunch Celebration, Amplify Austin, En el Juego: Back to School (B2S) Campaign, and Community Health Worker Graduation.
Collaborate with the Development and Volunteer Engagement Manager (VEM) on El Buen’s flagship Hands for Hope: Food Equity and Access Campaign to meet fundraising goals.
Develop and manage a fundraising plan with a working prospect list, strategically aligning with the DODC to meet unrestricted fundraising goals.
Establish a recurring donor program, including levels, benefits, and recruitment.
Support the planning, growth, and execution of direct mail appeals such as End of Year and Spring Appeal in collaboration with the Development team.
Collaborate with the Development and Volunteer Engagement Manager to secure volunteer relationships with churches, schools, corporations, and community partners to grow the donor‑volunteer pipeline.
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship – Corporate Membership Program (25%)
Oversee El Buen’s Corporate Membership Program, securing corporate funding to diversify and grow unrestricted resources.
Manage full‑cycle relationship building—identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.
Establish systems and procedures for pursuing corporate relationships.
Perform prospect research on businesses for sponsorships, workplace giving partnerships, events, and collaborative fundraising opportunities.
Project‑manage corporate and partner drives, including Back to School and the Angel Tree holiday project.
Engage corporate donors in volunteer opportunities in collaboration with the Development Manager.
Maintain accurate donor/funder records in the development database, tracking moves and funding decisions.
Supervision (15%)
Provide strategic leadership and supervision to the Development and Volunteer Engagement Manager.
Oversee recruitment, retention, and professional development of staff in alignment with HR policies, ensuring values of equity, collaboration, and excellence.
Conduct regular check‑ins and annual performance evaluations, offering mentorship and growth opportunities.
Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness across the department.
Attend scheduled Development team meetings to facilitate cohesion, planning, and task allocation.
Allocate staffing and resources effectively to meet program and organizational needs.
Cross‑Department Collaboration (5%)
Support and collaborate on donor‑centered content for social media, email, newsletters, radio, and TV.
Participate in networking events and present on behalf of El Buen.
Work with DODC to provide support for Development Committee meetings as requested.
Create and provide regular fundraising reports to the Executive Team and Development Committee.
Participate in annual Development Strategic Planning and Annual Development Plan processes.
Other Activities as Assigned (5%)
Participate in emergency response operations as needed to address community disasters.
What You Will Bring
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Four to six years of experience in a fundraising office of a foundation, corporate giving program, non‑profit organization, or large institution such as a university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties.
Experience growing unrestricted portfolios, including strong corporate connections.
Experience with annual giving or individual giving programs.
Excellent writing skills and proven ability to construct clear, compelling donor communications and proposals.
Experience developing and monitoring budgets, and submitting reports to funders and/or donors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of fundraising practices, procedures, and philosophies.
Experience with gift processing and database management preferred (Network for Good preferred).
Direct mail experience.
