Principal Duties and Responsibilities Saint Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, a vibrant and active parish community of approximately 4,000 households, is seeking a Director of Parish Operations to serve as a key member of the pastor’s Leadership Team. This senior leadership position provides strategic direction and oversight for the administrative and operational life of the parish, ensuring that personnel, systems, resources, and structures are aligned to support the parish’s pastoral mission and long-term vitality. The Director reports directly to the pastor and carries delegated authority for day-to-day operational leadership. The Director of Parish Operations fosters a healthy, collaborative, and accountable work culture among parish staff and volunteers. Through clear communication, supportive supervision, and effective organizational structures, the Director promotes unity, shared responsibility, and trust in service of the mission of the parish. In support of this mission, the Director provides leadership and oversight of parish operations, including human resources, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The Director ensures that personnel practices, policies, and organizational systems reflect both professional excellence and the values of the Gospel. The Director supervises and coordinates the work of staff and managers responsible for parish administration, development and stewardship, communications, facilities and grounds, and information technology. In close collaboration with the pastor, the Director serves as a principal advisor on organizational, personnel, and operational matters in a large-parish setting.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Model and promote collaborative leadership practices through supervision, communication, and decision-making structures
Provide leadership for all human resources functions, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and personnel policy development
Oversee parish risk management and compliance, including safety protocols, insurance coordination, Safe Environment requirements, and adherence to archdiocesan and civil regulations
Supervise and support managers in administration, development and stewardship, communications, facilities and grounds, and information technology
Ensure effective coordination, communication, and shared planning across all operational areas
Partner with the pastor and Leadership Team on organizational assessment and long-range planning
Education and Experience
Practicing Catholic with a servant’s heart
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative teams
Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills
Working knowledge of human resources, risk management, and regulatory compliance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience in church or nonprofit operations
