The Director of Education is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational and training programs across the behavioral health hospital. This position ensures that all staff are trained in accordance with clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, hospital policies, and patient care standards. The Director of Education works closely with leadership, clinical teams, and regulatory bodies to maintain excellence in staff development and to promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
As a Director of Education:
Develop and manage the hospital’s annual education plan, aligning with organizational goals and regulatory standards. Coordinate and provide onboarding and orientation programs for all new hires. Design, implement, and evaluate ongoing training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff, including crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and compliance training (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission standards). Collaborate with department heads to identify specific training needs and develop customized learning plans. Ensure staff maintain current licensures and certifications through continuing education and required in-service programs. Oversee training documentation and maintain records in accordance with accrediting and licensing bodies. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and modify them based on feedback, outcomes, and quality improvement initiatives. Supervise education team members and external trainers, ensuring consistent delivery and quality of instruction. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities related to training and education. Stay informed on the latest evidence-based practices, behavioral health trends, and regulatory updates. The Director of Education will have the following:
Education:
Master’s Degree in Nursing. Doctorate preferred. Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a behavioral health or psychiatric healthcare setting, with at least 3 years in an educational or leadership role preferred. Licensure/Certifications:
Active state licensure in nursing. CPR, CPI, or other crisis management certifications a plus. Skills: Strong understanding of behavioral health principles and treatment modalities. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to develop curriculum and use a variety of teaching methodologies.
