About the Division The Division of Industrial Compliance ensures Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. Responsibilities include drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code, conducting appeal hearings, issuing variances, licensing commercial contractors, inspecting boilers, elevators, and bedding, and regulating ski tramways. The division also oversees portions of the Manufactured Homes Program and administers Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage, and minor labor law programs.

Responsibilities

Perform duties as the Chief Building Official for the Division and the State of Ohio.

Provide building‑code interpretation and give direction to the Bureau’s plans examiners and staff.

Attend BBA hearings on behalf of the Bureau/Division.

Provide overall direction to the Bureau.

Promote the Bureau and Division to constituents and citizens of Ohio.

This position is Unclassified per Section 124.11 (A)(9) ORC.

The selected candidate must be a Chief Building Official, or be willing to obtain certification within two years of initial employment.

Qualifications Certificate to practice architecture (Section 4703.06 of Revised Code) or certificate of registration as a professional engineer (Section 4733.02 of Revised Code). A minimum of 3 years of plan‑review experience for projects under provisions of the Ohio Building Code (OBC) is required.
