O’Connell Robertson is seeking a Business Development Leader focused on Healthcare and Higher Education to drive strategic growth across the Austin/Central Texas market. The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of progressive business development experience (preferably within the A/E/C marketplace), a strong track record of relationship-based selling, and a highly external, community-engaged approach to generating and advancing opportunities.
Own and execute the Austin/Central Texas business development plan for Healthcare and Higher Education, aligning priorities with firm leadership and annual growth goals. Pursuits may expand into other regions across the State.
Build and maintain senior-level relationships with healthcare systems, academic medical centers, universities, and community colleges (owners, facilities leaders, capital planning, procurement, and user groups) and potential teaming partners (such as national design firms) to support prime and consulting engineering projects.
Develop, qualify, and advance opportunities from early intelligence through pursuit; maintain an accurate, actionable pipeline in the CRM (next steps, close plans, win themes, and probability).
Collaborate with other business developers to coordinate account coverage, share market intelligence, and jointly pursue multi-market or multi-sector opportunities.
Partner with Senior Leadership Team, technical leaders, and project teams to shape strategy, identify differentiators, and assemble the right pursuit team (including consultants/partners). Guide and facilitate regional, market focused BD meetings and engage regularly to guide seller-doers.

o-go input and pursuit planning; support proposals, presentations, and shortlist interviews in coordination with marketing (storytelling, resumes, project sheets, and messaging). Maintain a strong external presence—regularly engage with clients and the community through industry organizations, civic groups, and events to strengthen relationships, generate leads, and increase O’Connell Robertson’s brand awareness across Austin/Central Texas. Provide regular activity, pipeline, and forecast reporting to the CEO and leadership team; track outcomes and adjust strategy based on performance and market conditions. 7–10+ years of progressive business development experience, preferably in the A/E/C marketplace (architecture, engineering, planning, construction, or related professional services). Demonstrated success developing and converting a pipeline of opportunities within Healthcare and/or Higher Education markets. Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage senior decision makers and influence pursuit teams without direct authority. Collaborative, team-first approach—able to work closely with other business developers to coordinate market coverage, share leads, and execute joint pursuit strategies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to internal leadership and external clients. Working knowledge of RFQs/RFPs, shortlist interviews, and pursuit best practices; experience partnering with marketing/proposal teams. Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite; disciplined approach to planning, activity tracking, and forecasting. Austin/Central Texas presence with ability to travel locally/regionally for client engagement and industry events. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Established network across Central Texas healthcare and higher education owners, developers, and industry partners. Experience supporting large, complex pursuits (ID/IQ, CMAR/Design-Build teams, campus master planning, and phased capital programs). Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience). Work Arrangement This position reports to the CEO, is part of a dynamic and collaborative marketing & business development team and is an in-office position with flexibility for one remote work day per week. Due to the nature of the role, frequent in-person meetings and external engagement throughout Austin/Central Texas are expected.
